January 30, 2008

warmth in the middle of cold

I mentioned that I had to cancel an appointment while I was sick with the Chicken Pox.  Sunday I got the chance to make that up.

A cute family of mostly girls, just like my own.  These girls and their parents are really beautiful, they have the warmest  coloring and personalities that match.  I felt so welcome while taking pictures for them and now I will share some sneak peeks!

sad picture share

I promised that I would share a visual of the cropping that was done to Evelyn's hair.  Today I will consider "sad picture day" as this picture is absolutely pitiful.

in the dark

This happened tonight, just before bedtime...but tomorrow I will take pictures for proof.

What do you do when your 3 year old walks up and proudly announces "Evelyn wanted me to cut her hair!"......and then plops down a mound of golden blonde locks on your kitchen cabinet?????

I don't know what you all would do, but I freaked out (inwardly, at first).  I tried to be calm, but I saw Masyn quickly begin to feel the need to backpedal in her excitement and figure out a way to blame someone else for her handiwork (that I would compare with a dull knife and blindfold) with the scissors.

Convelling over the fact that there is a pile of silky hair in front of me, I was shaken when Evy walked around the corner.  She only had to pass me and allow me a glimpse at the back left side of her head and instantly my heart broke for her.  Masyn lopped off a good 3 inches across Evelyn's "crown."  It looks so pathetic I didn't know what to do but hold her close and say "I'm so sorry baby, so sorry."

Avery is partly to blame.  Once again, she left her school supplies out where her sister's had access to tools they are not allowed to touch.  Masyn knew she wasn't supposed to be near the scissors, so she too was in trouble.  The sad part is though, no teaching or lecture will make Evy's hair grow back faster.

It's been a long day.....I'm definitely going to sleep now.  Pictures of this new "do" will follow ASAP.  My only therapy is to laugh at this, so I guess that means doing what I always do...share it with the world of readers on my blog.

show you no pictures, evoke no fear...

If I were to post an image of myself right now, I believe it would cause people to run and hide in complete and unabashed terror.

I'm 26 and I have caught the Chicken Pox from my kids.

When someone tells you "Chicken Pox are so much worse for adults...."  BELIEVE THEM!

I have given birth 3 times, two of those times without any drugs at all, but that was a cakewalk compared to the C.Pox.

It started with a massive ache generating from my neck into my torso and extremities.  The next thing to hit was the migraine (quite possibly the worst I've ever had, and I have them often).  A fever and chills set in shortly after my head began to pound.  2 days later I was covered in itching blisters.

At one point I felt as if I would jump through a window just to feel the shards of glass scratch my skin and give me relief.  I couldn't sleep for 36 hours...every time my eyes would drift shut I would feel burning and itching in some new place jarring me from possible sleep.  I gave up on sleep and went about my day until Adonis arrived home to watch the girls.  At that point I took several Aleve and climbed into my bed, I would not emerge from that place for the next 12 hours.

Although I still itch, still look like a toad, and still battle small headaches and stiffness in my spine, I am happy to say "it feels like the worst is behind me."

I can report (thanks to parents and in-laws) that Oatmeal Baths DO HELP!  Thank you guys, those were a lifesaver to Masyn and me!

Sadly, very sadly, I had to reschedule a shoot that I was to have this weekend with a darling family!  Hopefully when the weather warms up and when I don't look like I've been befallen with one of the plagues of Egypt, I will have some cute new pictures to show you all.  Until then, I guess I will just keep snapping away at my own dotted little girls in our quarantined home.

Boys Being Boys

Oh how different...but in many ways just the same.  As you might know I am surrounded by girls, so I was thrilled at the chance to have a session with little boys!

I had the privilege of photographing a beautiful family yesterday!  Two of the cutest boys ever, and clearly they owe their looks to their parents who are equally good looking.

Here are some sneaks from the shoot ~

Oh the joy...

...that such a tiny lens can bring to one household....

Lovemy50mm1

This feeling of bliss and excitement has been brought on by the L   O   N   G awaited arrival of my new 50mm f1.4 USM lens!

For some of you I know you might be thinking I'm shallow or that this is quite silly (both are true in fact, but that is not what this is about), however, I just want to spread some of the sunshine in my life today with you all.  I hope you have a great day with a good dose of joy and laughter!!!

Last Christmas

I've been going through my photographs looking for something for a friend and I came across a couple of pictures that I took last year at Christmas time.  This was a really fun session ~

All Too Soon

Sharing a picture today of Avery that I took on Christmas morning this year...

I'm struck by how grown up she looks here and inspired to embrace each moment of this young phase, because I see how quickly it is fading.  Not to say that I am dreading the next stage of her life, but I realize that this is the only time she will ever be this impressionable and I want her to have the best time possible so she can carry it forward to whatever follows.
